About me and my work
My name is
Anton Scholz and I was born in Hamburg, Germany,
in 1972. After graduating from high school and
fulfilling my mandatory civil service to my
country I moved to Asia at the age of 22.
Since then I have mostly lived, studied and worked
in Korea and Japan but I have also travelled a lot
in Asia, visiting almost all Asian countries at
least once. In 1995 I picked up my old passion for
photography and the camera has become my close
companion ever since.
After returning to Germany in 1998 I enrolled at
Hamburg University in Korean and Japanese Studies
and graduated in 2003 with a M.A. degree in Korean
studies. During the time of my studies I received
various scholarships which made it possible for me
to study for one-and-a-half years at Korean
universities as well as one year at Osaka City
University in Japan.
Since 2001 I have been a freelance photojournalist
and started to work for magazines in Japan, Korea
and Europe. Currently I live and work in Korea as
a freelance journalist and translator. My
specialty is travel stories for motorcycle
magazines but I also work for non motor-sport
related magazines. In addition I consult for
German and Korean companies and teach German at
Chosun University in Gwangju. Some of my
photographic work and recent articles you can find
on these pages. You can also find links to the
webpages
of some of the magazines and companies I work for.
If you want to know more about me and my work you
can find my address and email on the contact page.
My interests
Apart from
photography, travelling and motorcycles are
my great passions. Together with my wife
Yujin, who
helps me with my work, I combined my passions
and made them my livelihood.
During my first years in Asia I have spend about
two years in Buddhist monasteries and Zen has
influenced my way of seeing the world and I
think it has found its way into my photography.
I very much enjoy living in Asia and keep up
with my studies of Asian culture and languages.
